Every 4th Friday of the month (except May, June and July) the Monkton Stargazers hold an astronomy viewing session which is open to non-members of the Reserve.
This session will include a talk entitled Cosmic Perspectives, which will start at 7pm.
(Members must present their membership cards to qualify for free entry)
Price: Members FREE; Non-members: adults £5, children £2.50, family £10
If non-members decide to take out a membership after the event, we will deduct your entrance fee from the membership if you take it out on the same night. As well as the normal benefits of membership, members who choose the option of joining the Monkton Stargazers will be informed about additional impromptu viewing sessions, which are held throughout the year.
When attending these sessions, be sure to wear suitable clothing for the evening, especially during the winter months. Please also wear sturdy footwear as the track leading to the observatories is uneven. If you have your own torch (preferably equipped with a red filter) that would be beneficial, as the Reserve can get very dark at night.
Children are welcome to attend, but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
As a rule of thumb, viewing sessions will start approximately one hour after sunset.
Viewing is, of course, weather dependent and it is highly recommended that visitors phone the Reserve after midday on the day of the session to check last minute details. Our astronomers are usually reluctant to cancel sessions and in the event of overcast conditions they may put on an indoor event. Our telephone number is 01843 822666.
Specific details of each session will be posted nearer the time.
